Believe it or not, there aren't many therapists out there that work with children! Those that do generally have little to no training and experience that is exclusive to kiddos. I have been trained in the BoysTown Model of Psychoeducation and Yale University's Intensive-In Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Service (IICAPS). I was also a junior martial arts instructor for many years and I have worked in residential programs and outpatient services that dealt with children and the Department of Children and Families. Whether you are coming to Change Talk LLC because you are a parent needing our help or a child coming to see us because something is going on; Change Talk has most of the options you are looking for.

Generally, work with most children is slower than adults. I know, discouraging stuff. Children either don't see the benefit therapists have to offer or they feel like they are in trouble when they initially come to see me. In addition, the human brain doesn't stop developing until 26-28 years old. So a six year old brain operates a heck of a lot differently than a middle-aged client's. However, the hope and my experience has been when children do change it tends to be semi-permanent following them for an entire lifetime. Especially with kids, be careful of labels, due to repression (not aware of what they have forgotten) or attempting to push people away via inappropriate behaviors; children generally often get mislabeled by family, teachers, and other professionals. Children also require more of a family and systemic effort than traditional talk therapy. We're talking Boy Scouts, Karate, Mentor Programs, DCF Programs, local department of social services, and the list goes on and on about the various topics I can help your child and family with. Give me a call to see what Change Talk LLC is really about. Your child will be in great hands and we understand the trust associated with handling perhaps the most valuable thing in your life; your children.
